Taunton Town Council presents Taunton Together: a Celebration of Diversity, Arts, Culture and Creativity
Taunton Town Council is collaborating with its cultural partners to deliver Taunton Together, an end of summer celebration, taking place on Saturday, 28 September 2024. This event will be Taunton Town Council’s first ever festival, a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and creativity in the heart of Taunton town centre.

March’s Meeting of the Full Council
March’s meeting of the Full Council was held on Tuesday 12 March, and chaired by the Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Nick O’Donnell. In line with our policy, the meeting was live streamed on our YouTube channel, and the recording remains available to watch. Following a lively 40-minute session of public questions at last week’s Annual Town Meeting councillors discussed the key points and themes raised by residents from words of thanks to queries on plans for improvements to the town centre. The 6 June this year marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. Councillors heard details of the planned D-Day event, to be held in collaboration with West Monkton and Cheddon Fitzpaine Parish Councils. The varied programme will include wreath laying at the Normandy stone in Vivary park, the lighting of the beacon at Maidenbrook Country park and much more, with further details to be released shortly. West Monkton Parish Council have committed £10,000 for the event and councillors resolved to contribute the same from the Taunton Town Council civic budget to support the commemorations.

Grants Committee: Youth and Knife Angel Grants
On Monday 4 February 2024 Taunton Town Council held an extraordinary meeting of the Grants Committee, chaired by Councillor Packer-Hughes, to consider 19 grant applications. The funding pot totals £150,000, to be allocated as equal sums of £50,000 per year for the next three years, and forms part of our Service Growth and Improvement plan. For this reason, applications were limited to the purpose of providing Youth services or facilities as resolved by Councillors at a meeting of the Full Council held on 14 November 2023.

Taunton Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting round up
On Tuesday 5 March 2024, Taunton Town Council hosted their first ever Annual Town Meeting, at the County Room, Somerset County Cricket Club. A recording of the event is available to watch on our YouTube channel. The meeting was an annual review of the Council year, an opportunity to debate important local issues and to celebrate community achievements. The Town Council were delighted to welcome approximately 100 residents and guests to the event. The Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Nick O’Donnell, acted as host, and presented the Civic Awards.

Annual Town Meeting: Come along and have your say!
Annual Town Meeting: Come along and have your say! Taunton Town Council are hosting their inaugural Annual Town Meeting from 6.30pm on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at The County Room at Somerset County Cricket Club, St James Street, Taunton TA1 1JT. It is not a committee meeting like Full Council, but rather an opportunity for residents living within the Taunton Town Council area to come along and find out more about what the Council have achieved so far, and to have their say.

The Market House lights up for Ukraine
Saturday, 24 February 2024 marks two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Taunton Town Council are lighting up The Market House, on Fore Street, Taunton, blue and yellow from dusk that evening to mark this sombre anniversary.

February’s Meeting of the Full Council
February’s meeting of the Full Council was held on Tuesday 13 February, Chaired by the Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Nick O’Donnell. In line with our policy, the meeting was live streamed on our YouTube channel, the recording remains available to watch. The focus this month was on proposals for supporting services at risk due to Somerset Council due to their ongoing financial emergency.

Taunton Town Council agree their future plan and budget
Tonight, Taunton Town Council approved its Corporate Plan for 2024-2027, the first of its type for Taunton. It sets out the priorities of the Town Council and explains their vision for the Town over the next few years. The overarching message is to explain how the Town Council propose to ‘Shape Taunton’s Future’ whilst ensuring that they continue to promote and preserve the rich heritage we all enjoy. In another landmark, they also agreed their first budget, which will support the delivery of the Corporate Plan, with a focus on improving existing assets and protecting assets and services in the town for the future.

Taunton Town Council Grants Committee Awards – January 2024
On Monday 8 January 2024 Taunton Town Council held the third meeting of the Grants Committee to consider eleven grant applications. The group, comprised of councillors, was chaired by Councillor for Vivary, Amber Packer-Hughes. A total of £20,500 was awarded from the Grants budget. To date a total of £74,912 has been awarded by the Town Council.

December’s Meeting of the Full Council
The Final Meeting of the Full Council for 2023 was held last night, Tuesday 12 December, Chaired by the Mayor, Councillor Nick O’Donnell. The overarching theme of the meeting was the discussion around financial procedures and importantly, budget allocation for 2024/25.

Taunton Mayor gives a charitable gift
TThe Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Nick O’Donnell, has gifted £200 to Taunton Foodbank in support of their Christmas campaign. The donation was made using funds from the Alderman Spears Charitable Trust which was set up in 1973 by former Councillor, Alderman and Freeman, Mr Frederick Cory-Spear OBE.

Mayor of Taunton to host annual carol service
The Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Nick O’Donnell is hosting this years ‘Carols Around the Bandstand’ in collaboration with the Taunton Minster and Taunton Team Chaplaincy. The ever-popular pre-Christmas event will take place in Taunton’s Vivary Park on Monday, 11 December, with musical accompaniment from symphonic wind band, Taunton Concert Band.
